What is WAFA?
WAFA (Water Air Food Awards) is a forward-thinking NGO, headquartered in Copenhagen, that identifies and celebrates environmentally-savvy “silent heroes” around the world – people whose low-cost, high impact solutions (primarily in developing countries) are having a positive impact in their local communities.
Founded in 2008, WAFA is staffed by an international team of volunteers – academics, professionals and business leaders with a shared passion for a sustainable, healthy
planet.
WAFA supports United Nation’s Global Compact, signed EU Brussels’ Declaration Pledge to Peace, is a member of World Green Design Organization Brussels, and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals: #1, #2, #6, #7, #11, #12, #13, #15, #17.
WAFA recognizes and promotes sustainable solutions that ensure safe drinking water, clean air and food for all.

Over 30.000 rainwater harvesting systems installed in India – guaranteeing healthy water for households throughout the dry season.
Air Award
745 solar ovens built and installed in Nicaragua – boosting family health and reducing deforestation.
Food Award
345 women’s aquaculture businesses established in rural Nigeria – providing sustainable income and healthy food for the communities.
Youth Award
Established a wetland cleanup campaign, permaculture garden, water reduction pledges and water conservation projects.
